Education and Early Life



Morehouse college
Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania

Born in Atlanta Georgia, MLKJ was the son of Martin Luther King Sr. a Baptist minister and Alberta Williams King. His father was a pastor at a Large atlanta church. MLKJ was ordained as a Baptist minister by the age of 18.
MLKJ went to a segregated school where he was later on excelled. He entered a nearby Morehouse College at age 15. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1948. After graduating with honors from Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania in 1951, he went to Boston University where he earned a doctoral degree in systematic Technology in 1955.
His ability to speak to an open public developed rather slowly during his years in college. He won a couple prizes in speech contest and he was praised by some professors for powerful speaches he made in public. At Morehouse, Crozer, and Boston University, he studied the teachings on nonviolent protest of Indian leader Mohandas Ghandi.
During his time in Boston, he meet a lovely woman named Coretta Scott a music student and native of Alabama. tey got married bby 1953 and had 4 children. In 1954 King accepted his first pastorate at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Mongomery Alabama. A church with a well educated congregation that was recently led by a minister who had protested against segregation.
