The King's Assasination



Memphis, Tennessee april 4th 1968; Just as Martin Luther King was addressing himself to the public supporting a strike by black garbage workers; King was shot from a building accross his stage by a sniper. As the news spread it brought with it anger thoughout the nation and the world. In 1969 James earl Ray, an escaped white convict pleaded guilty to the murder of Martin Luther King Jr and was sentenced to 99 years in prison. Ray later rejected his confession. years of investigations came to conclusion that Ray did not act alone yet, no accomplices were ever found or identified. MJKL became the symbol of Black courage and archievement, high moral leadership and the ability to overcome racial divisions.
